City of Saskatoon
Saskatoon is located 50 kilometers west of the Sunburst Growers
yardsite. The city lies 780 kilometers northwest of Winnipeg, just
over 520 kilometers southeast of Edmonton, and a little over 300
kilometers north of the U.S. border. It is a magical city, a place
with a rare combination of big city amenities and small town spirit.
Established in the late 1800's by a group of settlers looking for
Utopia, it was named after the Cree word for an indigenous wild
berry. A cultural oasis, Saskatoon boasts amateur theatre groups,
a symphony and numerous art galleries. For those who love to play,
the offers many golf courses, swimming pools and other assorted
sporting facilities. Shopping and dining in saskatoon is a rewarding
and exiting experience with friendly courteous staff and a wide
variety of choice. Summer dayitme temperatures range from 20C to
35C with an average annual rainfall of 245mm ensuring lush gardens
and parks. Winter temperatures vary from +5C to -30C with enough
snowfall to encourage a wide variety of winter sports.
A syncrotron
particle accelerator is under construction on the University
of Saskatchewan Campus. This syncrotron will be one of the four
most powerful in the world. A project like this demonstrates to
the scientific community that Saskatoon has always been, and will
continue to be, a center for scientific research.
Saskatoon is situated on the banks of the south Saskatchewan river
which is crossed by seven bridges within the city limits.
